For generations — Cottrell Paper Company has manufactured electrical insulation and specialty papers, turning cellulose into paper that is used for insulation in electrical equipment.
Since our inception in 1926, we have been family owned and operated in Upstate New York, currently operating out of our 100,000 square foot plant at the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains.
In this time, Cottrell Paper Company has established itself as a leader in the electrical industry, through manufacturing superior motor and transformer insulation products for some of the largest companies in the world. We have also gained international certification by ISO, for our quality management system.

Cottrell’s time tested products, including our Copaco – Rag Paper, Kraft papers and pressboards, continue to be rugged, reliable…proven performers in both the motor insulation and transformer markets and are used globally. Boasting high durability and excellent physical test values gives these papers outstanding mechanical and electrical characteristics.
In fact, you’ll find our insulation papers located in almost every household appliance and most automobiles.
Committed to Sustainability
What also sets us apart is our green industry approach to reducing pollution. Cottrell Paper Company has been manufacturing our cotton products out of 100% recycled material since 1926.
Our fiber waste is composed to a soil enhancer.
- Our process water is returned to the stream in a form that is more chemically pure than when drawn in.
- Our plant is also powered in part by our hydroelectric generators.
Recently we have invested in a natural gas pipeline and a new highly efficient boiler to reduce our carbon footprint even further.
Cottrell remains committed to responsible recycling practices for the benefit of the environment.

Now in our 4th Generation, Cottrell continues to be innovative, and are currently developing expanded product lines and new product offerings.
Our quality transformer products are made from only the highest grade Canadian wood pulp and very pure water, allowing them to be used in some of the largest power transformers in the world. The CK125TU extensible Kraft and Pressboard, help you provide the highest electrical integrity from your transformers and the reliability that you can expect from the Cottrell brand. This has allowed our transformer business to grow rapidly.
